Monday Night Recap

24 was one of the most original and innovative shows when it premiered over 8 years ago, shortly after the 9/11 attack. Now on Day (season) 8, Jack Bauer has seriously endured every possible crisis and disaster imaginable, and nearly all of them numerous times. This is the problem and why it is good that this is the Final day. Jack has prevented three nuclear attacks, tortured nearly every nationality of terrorist, and uncovered "moles" in CTU in all 8 seasons (apparently CTU does not do background checks on prospective employees).

**SPOILER ALERT: 4/12 episode details coming up**

Jack has also lost nearly every woman he's gotten romantically involved with to some tragic accident. This happened again on Monday's episode. Renee Walker, the hot red-head, and Jack consummated their relationship just hours after Jack had been shot and additionally stabbed in the stomach by the same red-head. Jack finally has some peace and happiness in his life, right? Wrong, we're only 18 hours into this day, so Jack has 6 hours of heartache left. (Cue sniper attack) Renee, just about to reveal to Jack she recognized a Russian gangster when said gangster (who somehow knew exactly where to shoot) took her out. Kind of a sad ending, but we've seen it before. In fact, we saw it last week when President Hassan had his throat slit to end the hour.

One funny thing that I liked was the ridiculous Brian Hastings being relieved from his post as head of CTU and being replaced by the always twitchy and sardonic Chloe O'Brien. Chloe is the best character on the show (aside from the lead, of course).

I've stayed with this show for nearly 8 full years and will ride it out, but I am relieved Jack's days are over. In the final six hours I look forward to Jack kicking the crap out of everyone, including Starbuck from Battlestar Gallactica who was this year's mole at CTU.

Another note: Why in the hell did Freddie Prinze Jr. take a role on this season. His character did nothing. NOTHING! What a nice easy paycheck for Prinze. He can take that home to Buffy and baby Prinze and laugh all the way to the bank.

So six hours to go until the end of this series. Tune in on Fox each Monday at 8:00 CDT.

  1. I can't wait for the GLEE review. I love the music, but the show could use a little more testosterone.
